Some of the main features are:

• Support ofr dynamically typed languages. Many languages can be compiled to bytecode, but before version 7 there was no support for languages like Ruby that are not statically typed (this means a variable can refer to values of any type).
• Fork/Join framework. It breaks up processing and run code faster on multi-processor machines.
• NIO2 (New Input Output 2). It makes reading, writing or interacting with files, a lot easier.

There are than some language enanchements:

• No need to specify twice the types in generics:

  List<String> list = new ListArray<>();

• Switch accepts also strings
• No need to dispose of resources by calling the method close(), when you define them as follows:

  try(FileInputStream fis = new FileInputStream("test.txt")) {//Do something}

• Multi exception catch block:

  catch (ExceptionA | ExceptionB e) {//Do something}
